The term pallidum (PAL) refers to a composite substructure of the cerebral nuclei (CRN) defined on the basis of embryonic derivation from the medial ventricular ridge. It includes the globus pallidus (GPL), substantia innominata (SNM), basal nucleus (BSN), medial septal complex (SPX), triangular septal nucleus (TSN), nuclei of stria terminalis (NST), nucleus of the anterior commissure and nucleus of stria medullaris ( Swanson-2004 ).
