The term dorsal region of the lateral hypothalamic area refers to a cell-sparse region located dorsally in the lateral hypothalamic area of the rat. It contains high levels of melanin-concentrating hormone and hypocretin orexin. Functionally it is part of the behavioral state system ( Swanson-2004 ).
