The term rostral part of ventral premotor cortex (PMVr) refers to the more anterior of two areas of ventral premotor cortex (PMV) defined on the basis of internal structure, connections and function in the human ( Brodmann-1909) and macaque ( Geyer-2012 ). The other area is the caudal part of ventral premotor cortex (PMVc.Also known as: area F5, area PMVrNeuroNames ID : 3165PMVrt consists of two sectors. In the human they are area 44 and area 45. In the macaque they are area PMVrab and area PMVrc. Functionally, in the macaque, electrical stimulation of the area elicits coordinated goal-directed motor acts of the hand and/or mouth. Neuronal firing there is associated with visual inputs and motor actions toward three-dimensional objects.
