suprasellar cistern
Acronym:
The term suprasellar cistern refers to a surface feature of the cranium at the base of the cranial vault. It includes the medial parts of the anterior basal cistern and the posterior basal cistern ( Schiebler-1999 ). It is located under the hypothalamus in the cerebrospinal fluid-filled space between the left and right anterior parahippocampal gyrus. It is "roughly the shape of a pentagon at the level of the optic chiasm and of a six-point star at the level of the cerebral peduncle." ( Radiopaedia-2024 ). Updated 9 Jun 2024.
