The term anterior pretectal nucleus refers to a group of cells in the pretectal region of the human ( Paxinos-2012 ), macaque ( Paxinos-2009a ), rat ( Swanson-1998 ) and mouse ( Paxinos-2001 ). Functionally it belongs to the reticular formation (functional) of the subcortical motor system ( Swanson-2004 ).
