ventral auditory areas

The term ventral auditory areas refers to one of three subdivisions of the auditory cortex that are defined on the basis of cytoarchitecture in the rat ( Swanson-2004 ) and the mouse ( Hof-2000 ). It is located ventral to the primary auditory cortex, which is in turn located ventral to the third subdivision, the dorsal auditory areas. The auditory cortex is involved in the perception of sounds.
