supraoptic region

The term supraoptic region refers to a composite structure in the anterior hypothalamic region that represents an alternate subdivision of the hypothalamus. It includes the anterior hypothalamic area, the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus, the suprachiasmatic nucleus, the supraoptic nucleus and the supraoptic crest ( Carpenter-1983, Crosby-1962 ).
