cochlear nuclei

The term cochlear nuclei refers to a composite structure that protrudes from the lateral surface of the the medulla where the medulla is entered by the cochlear component of the vestibulocochlear nerve. They consist of the anteroventral cochlear nucleus, the posteroventral cochlear nucleus and the dorsal cochlear nucleus ( Carpenter-1983 ). The cochlear nuclei are classified as part of the auditory system in the Functional CNS Model - Rat ( Swanson-2004 ).
